Chinese Vice-President Meets Thai King

China and Thailand have already established an all-round partnership of good-neighborliness and mutual trust which can be seen as an example of good-neighborly friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between countries with different social systems, Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao said Wednesday afternoon.

When meeting with Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej at a summer palace in the resort city Hua Hin, some 170 kilometers south of Bangkok, Hu agreed with the king's view that the Chinese-Thai relations are inseparable.

Hu said the traditional friendship between the two peoples can be traced back to thousands of years ago, adding that the two peoples are not only friends but also relatives and brothers.

"We respect each other, trust each other and cooperate with each other closely, which is very valuable in the country-to-country relations and should be treasured by the two governments and the two peoples," Hu said.

At the turn of the century, he said, the bilateral relations continue showing a momentum of vigorous development.

The friendship between China and Thailand has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, which is also the spring of continuing development of bilateral ties.

"We believe that in the new century and new millennium the traditional friendship between the two countries will be further promoted and the two peoples will continue to be friends from generation to generation," Hu said.

He particularly "admired and appreciated" the support of the king and the queen for developing Sino-Thai relations. King Bhumibol welcomed Hu's visit to Thailand, saying that the bilateral relations are "very good."

The two peoples share similar culture and tradition, and understand and help each other in the long lasting friendship, the king said, citing it as an advantage of the development of the friendship.

He said the bilateral ties have been developing smoothly ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations 25 years ago, adding that there are no problems existing in the Thai-Chinese relations.

The Chinese vice-president arrived Tuesday evening for a five-day official visit to Thailand.
