Tourist Arrivals in Macao Rise in First Half of 2000Tourist arrivals in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) reached 4,365,670 in the first half of this year, an increase of 20.8 percent over the same period of 1999.Most of the visitors came from Hong Kong, accounting for 54 percent, according to figures released Wednesday by the Macao Statistics and Census Services of the Macao SAR government. The number of Hong Kong visitors from January to June increased by 10.2 percent over that of last year, and those from the inland areas of China and the Republic of Korea rose by 56.9 percent and 31.9 percent respectively. In June, 649,112 persons visited Macao, an increase of 16 percent over the same month of 1999. |
