Camp David Summit to Produce Dramatic Results: UAE PaperThe ongoing Camp David summit will end with dramatic results as U.S. President Bill Clinton is urging for a deal between the Palestinians and Israel, said a leading newspaper in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday."The tense Camp David negotiations today entered a decisive stage following U.S. President Bill Clinton's urging that a deal be reached between the Palestinians and Israelis before his departure to Japan, to attend the summit of group of eight industrialized states (G-8)," the Dubai-based Al Bayan newspaper said. Realizing that the whole Arab and Islamic world is waiting for his decision, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat rejected making any concession regarding Jerusalem. Arafat went further by warning that there would be no deal unless an agreement is reached on guaranteeing Palestinians' control of the Holy City. Meanwhile, Israeli sources said that Prime Minister Ehud Barak was still in Camp David and that he did not decide to go back to Israel as some reports had said previously. All indications affirm that Wednesday will witness a dramatic development in the peace talks. Israeli reports said that Barak had reached accords on all major issues such as borders, refugees, Jewish settlements, on condition that the Palestinians accept Israel's total sovereignty over Jerusalem. "Any incomplete deal will harm the peace process and will threaten the security and stability of the whole Middle East region," it added. |
