Students Keen on Computer-Related DisciplinesComputer-related disciplines have become the favorites of this year's university and college candidates, instead of finance and administration that were "hot" in the past, the China Youth Daily reported Tuesday.Quoting the results of its recent national poll, the daily said that nearly one out of every five respondents chose computer application and software development as their college majors. The ratio is higher -- up to 29.4 percent -- in China's four major cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, it added. Physics and medicine, though the most favored by the parents of these students, rank second, with a ratio of 7.6 percent, 12.5 percentage points lower than computers. The percentage for the once-hottest majors, such as finance and administration, slid to less than three percent. The poll, which began in May and was concluded within one month, received responses from 7,582 college candidates nationwide. |
