Second Yangtze Flood Crest Passing Crucial River Section

The second Yangtze River flood crest this summer Tuesday arrived at the meandering Jingjiang section, which is considered the most crucial section on the river for anti-flood precautions.

The crest passing the Shashi Hydrometeorological Station in central China's Hubei Province at 53,000 cu m per second Tuesday morning, surpassing the danger line by 0.01 m. This is the first time this summer that the flood has risen over the mark, according to the station's records.

The second crest was formed by the gathering of mammoth water flows from the upper reaches of the Yangtze and its tributaries, which have received large amounts of rainfall, with flooding in the Three Gorges area.

No danger spots have been reported at press time. All provinces along the lower reaches are on high anti-flood alert.
