Vietnam Attaches Importance to Friendship with Russia

Vietnam has been attaching importance to the development of its traditional friendship and cooperation with Russia, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu said.

He made the remarks when he was receiving visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victor Hristenco on Tuesday.

Phieu expressed his wish that Russia would boost its cooperation with Vietnam in those areas in which Russia was strong, and strengthen economic and trade ties between the two countries. Hristenco, who arrived here on Monday for an official visit to Vietnam, reiterated that Russia considered Vietnam a strategic partner and wanted to further develop its traditional relations with Vietnam.

Russia and Vietnam had great potential to boost equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas, said the Russian Deputy Prime Minister.

On the same day, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai also received Hristenco.

Khai highly valued the encouraging results of Vietnam-Russia cooperation in oil and gas exploitation and expressed his hope for more extensive cooperation in this field.
