China's Largest Arts Website Opens

The China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) Tuesday kicked off its official website for spreading news of the state's artists and cultural progress.

The website, chinabao.com, which is jointly promoted by the CFLAC and Beijing Telecom, covers literature, performing arts, visual arts and audio arts.

At the website's opening ceremony, Zhao Zhihong, vice-chairman of the CFLAC, said that the units have tried to use advanced technologies in popularizing traditional Chinese culture and arts.

The website also features on-line exhibitions, purchase, auction, education and a database of well-known Chinese artists.

Preparing to construct the website which now contains over 2, 000 pages, the CFLAC on March 23 specially established an editorial body, consisting of officials and experts in cultural circles.

In the second phase of its development, the website is scheduled to provide Internet surfers with further editions in English and Japanese, as well as in the original complex form of Chinese characters which is familiar to Chinese abroad.
