Tests to Improve Quality of China's Local Police Chiefs
Directors of the public security bureaus at the county and city level in China are expected to attend nationwide assessment tests which will check their professional capabilities and achievements, according to a senior official from the Ministry of Public Security Tuesday.
Sun Mingshan, deputy head of the ministry's political department, revealed this at a national tele-conference this afternoon.
He said that the practice, which was initiated in 1995, "aims to improve the overall quality of local police chiefs and encourage a merit certification system."
Sun urged that more attention be paid to the work, saying that the departments concerned should take this opportunity to encourage local police chiefs to study hard and to combine the test results with the appointments and dismissals of police chiefs.
