China Sets up New Micro-electronics Lab

The Infineon-Fudan Lab, jointly set up by Fudan, a prestigious university based in this east China metropolis, and Infineon Technology, a German semi-conductor giant, became operational in Beijing on Monday.

The opening of the lab signifies that China's micro-electronics progress is up to the international standard.

The two sides will jointly contribute their research strengths to studies of basic theories and applications in the lab, which is considered as a common platform at the forefront of the world's micro-electronics research.

"The lab is a model for cooperation between higher-learning institutions and multinational enterprises," said Professor Xu Mingzhi, vice president of Fudan.

Min Hao, director of the joint lab, said that the lab is expected to spend a large proportion of its funding for research into applicable electronic and multi-media technology.
