Technical Exchange between Beijing and Guangdong Enhanced

Monday, the Guangdong Economic and Trade Committee and colleges and research institutes in Beijing opened a conference on technical exchanges and took the first steps in confirming seven major joint-venture projects between Beijing and Guangdong such as the Guangdong IT corridor.

The leaders from the Guangdong ministries expressed their strong desire for Guangdong to make use of Beijing's technological products to push their economy one step higher. They think the cooperation between Guangdong and the Beijing colleges and research institutes should be based on the principle of mutual benefits, using each other's advantages and develop together. The forms of cooperation can vary from alliances between colleges-companies or creating share-holding enterprises to develop technology.

The leaders and experts from thirteen universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Microorganism Institute of China Academy of Science and Beijing Photoelectron Technology Research Institute attended this meeting. They think strengthening the technological exchange between Beijing and Guangdong is also beneficial to Beijing for it not only speeds up the transformation of technical achievements but also provides opportunities for skilled professionals to join the job market. The colleges and universities of Beijing and research institutes can use Guangdong's economic strength to upgrade their research and development.

Seven key joint venture projects were confirmed at the meeting: Guangdong IT corridor, Guangdong Ethylene Deep-process Base, Guangzhou International Biological Island, Zhongshan National Health Technology Industry Base, new energy industry, environmental protection high tech industry, and ocean high tech industry.

On August 18, the Guangdong government will hold a Year 2000 Guangdong Excellent Products Fair and Economic Cooperation Conference. Hundreds of enterprises and thousands of products will be on display there.
