National Gala to Show Arts Achievement

The Sixth China National Arts Festival will be held in Jiangsu Province from September 28 to October 9, the Preparatory Committee of the Arts Festival in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, announced at the weekend.

Regarded as one of the most important cultural events in China, the Arts Festival is held annually to exhibit the newest achievements made in the artistic field.

Five cities (Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou and Yangzhou) in the province will jointly host the festival with Nanjing as the main location.

Over 60 art ensembles from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities will perform at the two-week festival. They will present more than 100 performances of almost all types of dramas in China, including Peking Opera, modern drama, ballet, and various local operas, like Shaoxing Opera, Guangdong Opera and Sichuan Opera.

The festival organizing committee has invited several foreign art troupes to perform.

Many enterprises, companies and art galleries, such as Hongye Arts and Handicrafts Co Ltd and Artall Gallery in Nanjing, have offered to undertake part of the expenses for some of the activities including the Arts and Handicrafts Exhibition and the International Art Fair.

In order to encourage creativity among playwrights and excellent performances by the actors and actresses, a series of awards, such as the China National Arts Festival Award, will be given out at the close of the festival.
