Another Boom of Investment by Germany in China

As the time for China's entry into the WTO draws nearer, the industry circles of Germany have been well prepared to tap the Chinese market.

A recent investment from five major German enterprise groups alone has already topped 20 billion Mark. The investment projects include: (1), Bayer's building a factory in Shanghai with its investment reaching 6 billion Mark; (2) BASF's 5-billion-Mark factory plan in Nanjing; (3), Volkswagen announcement of an investment of at least 3 billion Mark for an expansion of a production line for its new-styled cars; (4) the investment by Siemens in mobile communications expansion; and (5) The Thyssen-Krupp's 3 billion Mark for establishing a steel-making plant in Shanghai.

German investment in China has showed a downturn since 1998, this year sees a second upsurge of investment by Germany in China.
