Yangtze Flood Crest Passing ChongqingThe highest Yangtze River crest this flood season arrived at this municipality on the upper reaches of China's longest river on July 16.The municipal Hydrometeorological Forecasting Center in western China said that the crest arrived at 8:00 this morning. The Jialing River, a tributary of the Yangtze, has risen 16 m since July 13 (Thursday), over the danger level. Non-stop downpours since last Thursday have pushed the river sections near Chongqing over the danger line for the first time this summer. As a result, a marketplace in the low-lying area in the city is under relocation and small barges have been ordered to suspend operations on the river. The municipal port administration has increased its patrols on the river in case of navigation dangers. |
