Chinese Students Win Gold Medals at Int'l OlympiadsFive Chinese high school students won five gold medals at the 31st International Physics Olympiad, and two gold, two silver medals at the 11th International Biology Olympiad.The Chinese students won the competition after they defeated nearly 300 participants from other 63 countries and regions in the 31st Int'l Physics Olympiad, which was held in Britain from July 8 to 16, with their team scores ranking first, according to sources from the China Association for Science and Technology. Lu Ying from the Nankai High School in Tianjin got the highest mark in the physics contest, and other gold winners are Xiao Jing from Shanghai, Chen Xiaosheng from Jiangsu, Song Junliang from Hubei and Zhang Chi from Liaoning. Three Chinese students also won the prize of best solution to the five theoretical and experimental questions of Physics which are "very difficult and new". At the same time, Wang Xu from Shandong and Song Zhentao from Hunan won gold medals at the 11th Int'l Biology Olympiad in Turkey, and Xu Liangliang from Hunan and Ye Jiangbin from Shaanxi attained silver medals. The International Olympiads of Scientific Subjects, with a history of more than 30 years, are aimed at developing the interest of youngsters in sciences. China first participated in the international Olympiads of mathematics, physics, chemistry, information science and biology in 1985.
