Seminar Showcases Power of Humanity

An international seminar was held in Hong Kong Monday to enhance the joint commitment of the Red Cross family in Asia in promoting humanitarian mission in the new millennium.

About 500 delegates from 28 Red Cross national societies and branches in the Asia Pacific region attended the four-day seminar.

Peng Peiyun, president of the Red Cross Society of China and vice- chairman of the National People's Congress officiated the opening ceremony of the seminar.

A series of discussions will focus on quality and risk management in blood transfusion, dissemination of International Humanitarian Law, effective education for children with disabilities, and strategies for Red Cross youth development.

"The seminar will be an excellent opportunity for all participants to share new ideas and experience to identify the way forward taking on the challenges of the new millennium," said the Chairman of the Hong Kong Red Cross T L Yang at the opening ceremony.

The seminar is part of a year-long celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Hong Kong Red Cross. Acting on the principle of humanity, the Hong Kong Red Cross has worked incessantly to help the suffering and vulnerable people in society in the past 50 years.
