Taiwan's KMT Party Delegation Arrives in Beijing

A Kuomintang (Nationalist) Party delegation from Taiwan has arrived in Beijing to kick off a planned three-day visit to the mainland.

The 30-strong delegation, headed by He Zhihui, a senior Kuomintang member, arrived in Beijing on Sunday at the invitation of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS).

Sun Yafu, vice-president of ARATS, and Li Yafei, ARATS secretary-general, held a welcome ceremony for the delegation in the HK-Macao Mansion in Beijing Sunday evening.

In the welcome speech, Sun said ARATS has established wide-range contacts with different parties and personages at various circles in Taiwan and has long been working for the development of cross-Strait relations.

Sun expressed ARATS's willingness to exchange views with different political parties, groups and individuals of Taiwan provided they support ``one China'' and oppose "Taiwan independence."

Talks could be held to promote development of cross-strait relations, and push forward the peaceful reunification of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region.

The mainland wish all the members in the delegation and people of all circles in Taiwan to work to this end, according to Sun.

The delegation is set to meet Chen Yunlin, director of Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council, Monday afternoon, and Vice-Premier Qian Qichen on Tuesday.
