China Holds Cultural Activity at Great WallChina held a cultural activity today at the Badaling section of the Great Wall near here to accelerate international cultural exchanges.The activity, which is expected to last one month, will invite troupes from Russia, Japan and Kazakstan to give performances, and Chinese troupes will perform dragon dances, lion dances and music of the minority ethnic groups in China, said the organizers. Art troupes will also display how warriors in ancient times defended the wall against invaders at Badaling. Experts on the protection of the world's cultural heritage will meet during the period as well to discuss how to protect, exploit and develop the world's cultural heritage, such as the Egyptian Pyramids, the Taj Mahal mausoleum and the Potala Palace in China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Badaling, since its opening to visitors in 1952, has received some 120 million visitors, with some 670,000 tourists to the scenic spot during the seven-day Labor Day holidays this year alone. Altogether, 330 heads of state have paid visits to this section of the Great Wall in the last 48 years.
