Zhang Yimou to Direct Opera Third Sister LiuĦĦ
Zhang Yimou, one of China's leading filmmakers, held a news conference on July 16 in Beijing. He announced that he would release his new opera "Third Sister Liu" set in Guilin, in the Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region.
His movie series: the scorching "Red Sorhgum", the realistic "Qiu Ju's Story", the symbolic "Raise the Red Lantern", the avant-garde "Keep Cool", and the romantic "My Road Home" all gained international fame. What will he do next?
Zhang Yimou (Film Director) Said:" Third Sister Liu will be a large scale showcase. The opera takes place in the beautiful landscape along the Li River. The premier is scheduled for 2002."
Zhang Yimou's rendition is believed to be of authentic Chinese quality. It was a challenge for him, but with an investment of twenty four million US dollars, and many creative talents involved, he said he hopes this new musical will add another note of culture to Guilin's natural beauty.
