China, DPRK Hold Session on Border River Shipping

The 39th session of the China-Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) joint committee for shipping on their border rivers closed in Shenyang Saturday.

During the 10-day event, the committee discussed last year's work and the plan for 2000 in a friendly atmosphere.

The two sides reached an agreement on issues of setting up and maintaining the navigation points, navigational safety, and dredging.

They also agreed on principle to open the cargo shipping between China's Dandong port and the Sin'uiju port of the DPRK.

The meeting, an annual event hosted alternately by the two sides, is held in accordance with a bilateral agreement between the two governments on the issue of border river shipping.
