Putin: Visit to China Aimed at Boosting Bilateral TiesRussian President Vladimir Putin has said his upcoming visit to China is aimed at understanding the lives of the Chinese people and boosting bilateral ties in various fields. The visit starting Tuesday also represents a key event in his personal life, said Putin in an interview on the eve of his visit to China with the Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television. Russia shares strategic partnership with China and puts relations with Beijing among priorities of its foreign policy, he said. It is not an expedient measure for Russia to develop ties with China and the strategic partnership between the two countries will keep developing in the new century and become the most important factor in maintaining global stability and peace, Putin noted. Russia would actively advance its cooperation with China in the economic and cultural fields as well as in international affairs, the Russian president said. He added that the maintenance of frequent contacts with Chinese leaders is very important. He and Chinese President Jiang Zemin have not only met frequently but also talked over the phone regularly, Putin noted. In their last meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, he and President Jiang discussed a range of issues and raised some problems that need to be addressed urgently, Putin said, expressing the hope that his upcoming meeting with Jiang would be conducive to the settlement of those problems. On trade cooperation, Putin pointed out that despite speedy development, the potentials are far from being fully tapped. He said some of China's experience in its economic reforms could be adopted in Russia, especially in taxation reforms, alleviation of taxes on enterprises and simplification of enterprise registration formalities. Putin also pledged to create a better investment environment for domestic and foreign investors, including those from China. He added that the Russian people have special and profound friendly feelings for the Chinese people and he becomes even more confident of the development of Russian-Chinese strategic partnership when he hears Chinese President Jiang Zemin speaks Russian and sings Russian songs. Putin is to pay a state visit to China from July 17 to 19.
