Enterprises Urged to Review Production Safety
The Chinese government Friday urged domestic enterprises to pay more attention to production safety. Production in Chinese enterprises is rife with problems, according to results from a recent inspection organized jointly by the State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC), the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Supervision and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
Three deadly accidents, each claiming more than ten lives, have occurred in south China's Guangdong Province since October last year.
Other notable examples included the June 22 air crash in central China's Hubei Province, the June 22 Yangtze River shipwreck in southwest China's Sichuan Province, the June 30 fireworks explosion in Jiangmen City in south China's Guangdong Province, and an explosion at the Dianjiang fireworks factory in Chongqing Municipality.
Li Rongrong, vice-minister of the SETC, today blamed these occurrences on the fact that some local and department leaders and enterprise executives have been more interested in making money than guaranteeing safety on the job, and also because their job responsibilities have never been made clear.
He said China attaches great importance to production safety in State-owned enterprises, but an increasing number of accidents have been reported in non-government and township enterprises.
Early statistics show that the number of industrial accidents and casualties were on the decline from last winter through May of this year, in a year-on-year comparison.
