Another Farce Staged by Taiwan Foreign-Aid Department

Some people in Taiwan have planned to spend huge sums of money to invite the American Cassidy Public Relation Company to lobby for their conduct of splitting and undermining cross-Strait relations.

Recently, the "Taiwan research institute", which supports "Taiwan independence", has replaced the "Taiwan comprehensive research institute", which in previous years also spent huge amounts of money to invite the said US company to lobby for Lee Teng-hui's visit to the United States and thus met with the strong criticisms by the entire Chinese people. It signed a contract with said US company, under which it had to pay a huge price of US$2 million a year to the US company which, in turn, would lobby the US Congress to pass the so-called Taiwan Security Enhancement Act (TSEA).

Such base conduct which aims to obstruct the development of cross-Strait relations and act in collusion with foreign forces to interfere in China's internal affairs cannot but arouse the serious concerns of the Chinese at home and abroad. This incident occurred at the time when the Taiwan authorities vowed to improve cross-Strait relations and has thus enabled people to see more clearly the true feature of the so-called Good Will of the leaders of the Taiwan authorities.

In 1995, under the direction of Lee Teng-hui, the "investment management commission" of the KMT Central Committee, in the name of the "Taiwan comprehensive research institute", paid an annual amount of US$1.5 million to the said US Company which, in turn, lobbied US Congress and finally brought the "trouble-maker" Lee Teng-hui to the United States where he carried out international activities to split up China, thus plunging cross-Strait relations into tension and adversely affecting the sound development of Sino-US ties. The acts of Taiwan authorities in damaging cross-Strait relations have met with unanimous condemnation by public opinion inside and outside the Island.

However, a certain banking institution of Taiwan, which has all along supported "Taiwan independence" and has spared no effort in providing the democratic progressive party with financial aid, this time again in the name of "Taiwan research institute" signed a contract with the said US company, moreover, it paid a higher price, demanding that the US company mainly lobby the US Congress to pass the so-called TSEA. The research institute used money to buy off the American anti-China forces to seek a protective umbrella for "Taiwan independence".

With regard to the so-called TSEA, the Chinese government has long before adopted a clear-cut attitude of resolute opposition, US President Bill Clinton has also expressed his attitude of vetoing the Act even if it would be passed by the Congress. Whereas the "Taiwan independence" separatists on the Island, who do not want to see the relaxation and development of cross-Strait relations, invariably engage in division and confrontation. This move not only undermines cross-Strait relations, but will also damage Sino-US ties as well.
