China's First Pop Music Odeum Debut in Beijing
China's first pop music odeum made its debut in the Chinese capital of Beijing recently.
Pop music soirees will be held at the odeum every Friday evening. New songs as well as new singers will be introduced to the audience while classic pop songs will be reviewed.
The completion of the odeum indicates that the status of pop music as an art has been further confirmed in the country, experts said.
Before the odeum's construction, China had not a single odeum that was dedicated to pop music shows, despite of the fact that pop music has won a multitude of fans nationwide.
Pop singers usually performed in discos and karaoke clubs, with some top-rated ones occasionally singing at TV shows.
