China Issues Regulations on Safety Supervision of Special Products

China recently issued regulations on quality and safety supervision for special products and equipment, including elevators and recreational devices.

The regulation, issued by the State Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, stipulates that the design and production of special facilities must meet national related quality standards and safety requirements.

The manufacturers without production and safety licenses are forbidden to produce the special equipment, according to the regulation, which will be implemented on Oct. 1.

In addition to requirements for designers and producers of special equipment, the regulation also asks the users be responsible for the proper usage and maintenance of the devices.

China currently has over one million items in the special products category, including elevators, recreational devices, cableways and boilers. A number of accidents caused by safety problems of these devices have resulted in deaths and economic losses in China recently.
