Int'l Tourism Festival to Boost Development in Ningxia

The tourism industry in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has got a boost with the holding of the five-day Yellow River International Tourism Festival, tourism officials said Thursday.

The festival, which closed Wednesday, attracted visitors from a dozen of countries and more than 20 Chinese provinces and autonomous regions. Some foreign media including the Voice of America and Asahi Shimbun of Japan were invited to cover the event.

During the festival, co-sponsored by the China National Tourism Administration and the regional government, a trade fair, an exhibition of tourism products, arts and crafts and garment shows were held simultaneously. Deals worth 150 million yuan were clinched.

Wang Yongzhong, director of the regional tourism bureau, said the festival has made Ningxia better known to the other parts of the world.
