China Donates Equipment to S. Leone

The Chinese government Thursday donated agriculture, fishing, lumbering and machinery-maintaining equipment worth about 250,000 US dollars to the Sierra Leone government.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony in the capital Freetown on behalf of the Sierra Leone government, Minister of Education, Youths and Sports Amadu Wurie said the donation by the Chinese government to Sierra Leone in such a difficult time once again showed the sincere friendship between the two countries.

Wurie said his government would take the occasion to express its gratitude to the government and people of China for their selfless assistance.

Since the establishment of diplomatic tie in 1971, China has provided valued support and immense assistance to Sierra Leone in many fields, the minister said, stressing that the bilateral relationship between the two countries has gone beyond friendship and become a family.

At the function, Yu Wuzhen, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, said that the Chinese government and people has always supported the efforts by the Sierra Leone government to realize lasting peace and stability.

He expressed optimism that the Sierra Leone government, under the leadership of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, will overcome the difficulties facing the country and maintain peace and development.
