HK Money Smuggler Seized in Dalian

A Hong Kong man suspected of trying to smuggle 500,000 US dollars out of China was seized Monday in Dalian, a port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

When the man was to take Flight 105 of Air China to Hong Kong at the airport of Dalian, Customs officers discovered through X-ray some dubious paper-like items wrapped in two bags in his suitcase. The items proved to be 500,000 U.S. dollars in cash.

The man, surnamed Cheng, had not declared the cash to the customs. He later claimed that the cash was brought into China from abroad by himself and he planned to buy a house with the money in Hong Kong.

The case is still under investigation.
