National Tourism Festival to Be Held in Xinjiang

The national tourism festival will be held in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region July 14-16.

Apart from the main venue in Urumqi, the regional capital, the festival will also be celebrated in eight localities: Changji, Turpan, Ili, Altay, Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bortala, Kashi, the Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bayingolin and Hami. When the three-day festival completes, participants will be organized to tour scenic spot in various parts of the region. More than 5,000 representatives from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and 10,000 Chinese and foreign visitors will attend the festival. All the 900 indoor booths and 86 outdoor booths have been reserved.

A grand opening ceremony is to be held Friday. The most splendid item will be a 600-meter-long procession composed of 13 ethnic teams, representing the 13 ethnic groups living for centuries in Xinjiang.
