FM Spokesman on South China Sea Issue

The key to the South China Sea disputes is to avoid complicating the issue, otherwise it will be harmful to regional stability, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said Thursday.

Zhu told a press conference in Beijing that China has always insisted on finding solutions to disputes with countries concerned through friendly bilateral consultations and peaceful means, and progress has been made in such consultations.

On the issue of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, Zhu said that China has taken an active attitude toward it, and it is ready to reach an agreement on the issue with relevant countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at an early date.

However, Zhu said the settlement of the issue allows no haste, taking into account the interests of all the parties concerned.
