Chinese Premier Concludes European Tour

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji left Brussels for home Wednesday night, winding up his tour of six European countries and the European Union headquarters.

During his visit in Belgium, the last leg of his tour, Zhu met with Belgian King Albert II and held talks with Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt on bilateral relations and major issues of common concern.

Zhu told the Belgian leaders that China is willing to make joint efforts with Belgium to upgrade the friendly cooperation of mutual benefit to a new high in all fields.

The Chinese premier also had an official visit to the EU headquarters in Brussels, where he held talks with Romano Prodi, the European Commission president.

Before leaving Brussels, Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, who is one of the members of the Chinese delegation led by Zhu, told Chinese reporters that the Premier's visit further enhanced China's bilateral political ties with Bulgaria, Germany, Luxembourg,Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and the EU.

Tang said the Chinese Premier's official visit to the six European nations and the EU executive Commission advanced China's economic and trade relations with these countries and deepened the Sino-EU relations.
