Construction of Large Hydropower Station Starts in Tibet

Construction on a large hydropower station in Tibet started Wednesday in Ngari prefecture, in the western part of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The hydropower station, located three kilometers from Zhada county in the prefecture, is the largest in the Ngari.

According to Zhao Xingwei, head of the project, the installed capacity of the station will reach 800 kilowatts, and the yearly energy output will be 5.66 million kilowatt hours.

The station will be finished in two years, and the first set 400-kilowatt work unit will begin to generate electricity by the end of this year.
