Taiwan's UN Bid Doomed to Failure

Taiwan is doomed to failure in its effort to enter the United Nations whatever tricks it will play, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said Thursday.

As a province of China, Taiwan has no qualification to enter this international organization, Zhu stressed at a regular press conference this afternoon.

The spokesman reiterated that the United Nations, an inter-governmental international organization, consists only of sovereign states.

"The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate one representing China, and Taiwan cannot enter the UN and all of its agencies under any names and through any methods."

Since 1993, the General Committee of each UN General Assembly has refused to include the so-called representation of Taiwan in its agenda, he added.
