Henan Plans to Invest 9 Billion Yuan in Highway Construction

Central China's Henan Province plans to increase this year's investment for highway construction to 9.1 billion yuan (about US$1.1 billion), up 30 percent from the figure planned at the beginning of the year.

The investment will be used in the construction of eight new highways and 21 projects being built.

The investment complies with the national strategy of accelerating the development of western China, according to a local economic official.

There will be at least 15 major highway projects under construction this year, said the official, adding that their total mileage will be 1,300 km.

By the end of this year, the province will increase its highway mileage by 2,638 km, including 83 km of expressways, he added.
