Foreign Investment Increases in First Half

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC), China absorbed more direct foreign investment the first half of this year compared with the same period last year.



10,101 new foreign companies pledged to invest US$241.7 billion worth of contracted investments, up 25.5% and 24.6% respectively. However, actual investment into China was US$171.67 billion for the first half of this year, a 7.5% decrease from 1999.



Up to the end of June, there were a total of more than 3.5 million companies from 180-plus countries and regions in China promising US$638.2 billion in contracted investments. Actual investment was more than US$325 billion.



Currently, almost 400 of the world's 500 largest multinational companies have set up offices in China.
