The Technology Trade and Treaty Law Working Group of the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade held its second meeting here from July 10 t0 12, 2000.

The two sides reviewed the progress of commerce and trade relations between the two places since the first meeting of the Joint Commission held in November 1999, as well as extensively exchanged views over the information exchange and cooperation in areas of mutual concern.

Topics discussed include "enhancing trade through technology" and "innovation and technology", and technical measures relating to trade and export control.

The two sides briefed their counterparts on the work progress, relevant policies and implementation details of the Mainland policy of "enhancing trade through technology" and the strategy of the HKSAR to adopt more "innovation and technology".

It was agreed that both the Mainland and the HKSAR attach great importance to innovation and technology developments and this was the driving force for economic development and served as the foundation for mainland-HKSAR collaboration.

The two sides set down the principles for cooperation in technologies relating to trade. Initial forms of cooperation in technologies relating to trade had also been agreed.

Representatives of the two sides also briefed the meeting on each other's legal framework for export control and recent developments, as well as exchanged views on related issues.
