IBM Eyes E-Commerce Deal With Chinese Motorcycle Producer

The world's computer giant International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) is to join hands with Jialing Group, China's leading motorcycle producer, for building the country's first e-commerce platform in the motorcycle industry.

A letter of intent for the cooperation project was signed Monday in Chongqing, a manufacturing center in southwest China. Zheng Xiaocong, general manager of IBM China Co. said it is the first time IBM is cooperating with China's motorcycle industry for the development of e-commerce.

He said the project would change the traditional model of purchase, manufacture and sales in China's motorcycle enterprises.

He Shibin, president of Jialing Group, said the e-commerce platform would help his company reduce costs and improve efficiency.

IBM and Jialing began their cooperation in 1998.
