Germany Offers 21-Million Marks of Assistance to China
Germany is to provide 21 million Deutsche marks (about 10.23 million U.S. dollars) of technical assistance to China, according to agreements the two countries signed Wednesday.
Long Yongtu, chief negotiator of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and Herbert Jess, charg d'affairs of the German Embassy, signed four agreements on behalf of their governments.
Under the agreements, the money will be used for projects including experts' study, training of Chinese railway executives and experts, a land management information system in Shanghai, and the protection and management of the Miyun Reservoir Basin in the outskirts of Beijing.
Long and Jess both expressed satisfaction with the successful cooperation between the two countries.
During the past 20 years, Germany provided a total of more than one billion Deutsche marks (about 487 million U.S. dollars) to China. Over 70 joint projects are being implemented or to be implemented.
