Chinese Army Leader Meets Indonesian GuestsThe key to resolving the Taiwan issue is for the Taiwan authorities to abide by the one-China principle, and no one going in for independence for Taiwan will be successful, a top Chinese army leader stressed Tuesday.Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation army (PLA), made the remarks when meeting with Achmad Sutjipto, chief of staff of the Indonesian navy. Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, added that the reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration of all Chinese people, including the Taiwan compatriots. On state relations, Fu said that China and Indonesia have enjoyed long-term friendship. Both sides are working for long-term, stable, good-neighborly relationship that covers all forms of cooperation, which is a goal set by Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his Indonesian counterpart Abdurrahman Wahid last year during his visit to China, Fu said. He said that Chinese and Indonesian military relations have developed smoothly, and the Chinese army is ready to develop multi- level friendly cooperation with the Indonesian armed forces in all areas. Achmad said that the Indonesian government has attached great importance to developing the friendly relations with China, and Indonesia's navy will strengthen the cooperation with the Chinese navy. Shi Yunsheng, commander of the PLA Navy, attended the meeting. He held talks with Achmad on Monday.
