HK Fashion Week Thrives Amid Economic UpswingThe outlook of Hong Kong's garment trade is optimistic in view of the economic recovery in full swing across Asia, said Christopher Cheng, chairman of the Garment Advisory Committee of Trade Development Council (TDC) of Hong Kong."In the first four months of 2000, Hong Kong's total exports of clothing of accessories increased by 11 percent over the previous year, with exports to Japan jumped by 36 percent and a leap of 10 percent to China's mainland market," said Cheng at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2001 Tuesday. As a reflection of the thriving garment trade, the four-day event registered a 30 percent rise over last year with more than 440 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions. This year's Hong Kong Fashion Week is showcasing a new pavilion from Bangladesh, joined by other group pavilions from China's mainland, India, the Macao SAR, the Republic of Korea and China's Taiwan province. A total of 12 fashion shows featuring collections from 40 designers and manufacturers are set to enable buyers to grasp the pulse of latest market trends. Moreover, some ten seminars projecting the latest market and product trends are also enhancing Hong Kong Fashion Week as the information platform for the international garment industry. |
