Total import and export value for the city of Tianjin Municipality in north China was 14.1 billion U. S. dollars in the first half of this year, 21 percent more than the same period in 1999, according to statistics released by the municipal Customs Office.
Local customs officials reported 6.1 billion US dollars of imports, up 18 percent from the January-June in 1999, and 8 billion US dollars of exports, up 22 percent from 1999.
With a total volume of 7 billion US dollars, State-owned enterprises occupied half of the total international trade in Tianjin. Business increased with Japan in the first six months by 27 percent, with the total two-way trade valued at 2.9 billion US dollars.
