China's First Robot Manufacturing Company Set up
China's first robot development and production company was set up Monday in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.
The establishment of the Siasun Robot & Automation Co. Ltd. signifies the start of market-oriented industrial robot production in China, said Wang Tianran, director of Shenyang Automation Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The institute has become the largest shareholder of the new company, with the institute's industrial robot R&D department and the robot prototype factory and over 200 researchers going to Siasun. At present, Siasun's net assets stand at 50 million yuan ( about 6 million US dollars).
Shenyang Automation Institute is China's only robot research and development base; its robots occupy one third of China's market share. In recent years, more than 200 industrial robots it developed have been used in the automobile, machinery, household appliances and airplane manufacturing industries.
Yan Yixun, vice president of CAS, said the new company is part of the on-going institutional reform of CAS, which aims to push forward commercialization of advanced technology.
