Inter-Korean Meeting May Be Held in Bangkok: Spokesman
Foreign ministers of Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) may hold a meeting during a regional security forum in Bangkok later this month, Thai foreign ministry spokesman Don Pramudwinai confirmed to reporters Monday.
The inter-Korean meeting may be held during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum (ARF) which opens on July 27.
"It is still under negotiation. North Korean foreign minister plans to meet several of his counterparts during the meeting, and South Korean foreign minister can be one of them," Don said.
A South Korean newspaper, the Korea Herald, reported Monday that DPRK also plans to hold foreign ministers' talks with the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the European Union during the forum.
It said DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam-sun is expected to use the ARF meeting to promote reconciliation with countries which do not have diplomatic ties with Pyongyang.
South Korea, prompted by a landmark inter-Korean summit last month, has promised to support DPRK joining the ARF, an organization that groups 22 Southeast and Northeast Asian nations.
It was reported that DPRK's entry of ARF will be one of the major agenda at the meeting.
