HK Subsector Polls Fair, Open, Honest: Spokesman

The voting of the election for the Election Committee members responsible for choosing the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region were completed successfully on Monday.

"The elections were conducted in an orderly manner, under the supervision of the Electoral Affairs Commission," a government spokesman said.

"The completion of these elections marks a significant step towards the general election on September 10," the spokesman added.

Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission Chairman, Woo Kwok- hing, said polling for the Election Committee had been conducted " fairly, openly and honestly."

"We inspected 20 polling stations throughout the territory to see electoral activities and we are satisfied with the polling arrangements," Woo said at a press briefing after polling ended at 10.30 PM on July 9.

A total of 32,823 voters from 25 subsectors and two sub- subsectors went to the polls. The turnout rate is 19.49 per cent.

Woo said that Since the start of the nomination exercise, the Election Commission has received 39 complaints, but the complaints are not of a serious nature.
