Beijing Police Detain Heroin Dealers

Beijing police have successfully dealt with a major case of heroin trafficking, a police spokesman said Monday.

Last week, police seized 9,510 grams of heroin, confiscated 300, 000 yuan (about 36,144 US dollars), and detained four suspected heroin dealers, he said.

This is the most serious heroin trafficking case police have handled this year, the spokesman said.

The suspects are Dong Liping, a woman, and Xiao Min, a male temporary worker with the company Dong operates.

In the scheme instigated by Dong, Xiao transported ten kg of heroin from southwest China's Yunnan Province to Beijing on July 4 and sold 500 grams of it. Xiao, together with two other suspects police did not name, was apprehended in Beijing on the evening of July 6. Dong was detained in Yunnan on July 7 and was transferred by police to Beijing.

The case is still under investigation.
