Two earthquakes, one registering 5.2 on the Richter scale, jolted Taiwan Monday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, seismologists said in Taipei.

The second tremor hit at 04:32 p.m. (0832 GMT), with the epicenter 35.9 kilometers (21.5 miles) southeast of the eastern Hualien city. It originated 39 kilometers (23.4 miles) below the earth's surface.

On June 11, a quake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale hit central Taiwan killing two people and injuring 36.
