Tropical Storm Kai-Tak Passes Shanghai, No DamageA tropical storm skated over China's east coastal city of Shanghai on Monday, halting sea transport and drenching commuters but causing no damage."The tropical storm has passed and it did not cause damage," an official at the municipal government's flood prevention office said. Typhoon Kai-Tak, which killed 39 people on its passage through the Philippines, had weakened to a severe tropical storm while sweeping through Taiwan. The official said the storm was downgraded further to "not severe" when it passed Shanghai. It caused suspension of shipping services to neighbouring Zhejiang province, which is also on Kai-Tak's course. Officials at Shanghai's airports said no flights had been cancelled because of the storm. Zhejiang province officials were not immediately available for comment. The Shanghai official said the storm had passed the city by noon.
