Xinjiang's Tourism Income Increases 1,000-Fold in 20 Years

Over the past 20 years since Xinjiang started developing the tourist industry, the number of tourists has increased at an annual rate of 45 percent and its foreign exchange income from tourism has ballooned 1,000 times.

According to the materials of Xinjiang Tourism Bureau, the region only received 88 persons and earned foreign exchange of US$46,000 in 1978. Last years, it hosted more than 200,000 overseas travelers and recorded a foreign exchange income of nearly US$90 million, a 1,000-fold increase over 1978.

Xinjiang boasts a huge total amount of tourism resources featuring diverse types, complete function, fine combination, and rich scientific content. Quite a few of its tourism resources rank first in China. It's an autonomous region full of mystery, novelty, roughness and primitiveness.

At present, Xinjiang has taken tourism as a new economic growth point. Therefore, the 2000 China Tourism Fair to be opened in Xinjiang on July 14 will provide a good opportunity for Xinjiang to introduce itself.
