Cable Television Broadcast Goes On Air in Macao

Thousands of Macao residents attended the celebration to kick off the first broadcast on Macao cable television on the evening of July 8. Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chaired the opening ceremony.

The Macao Cable Television Ltd. Co. adopted the newest advanced digital techniques to broadcast TV programs. It currently has about 40 different channels, including news, business, sports, education, entertainment, film and children programming, broadcast mainly in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.

The first broadcast of this cable television station marks greater diversity in Macao's television industry, bringing the island closer to the high-standards of a cosmopolitan city.
