China Cooperates with US in Copyright Protection

China is cooperating with the United States in combating rampant copyright infringement in the country.

Xu Chao, deputy director of the Copyright Department of the State Copyright Bureau, said that China has always been spreading information on copyright protection among its people, and the United States can do a lot in this regard.

He said that the bureau launched a training course with reputed U.S. copyright institutes, including the Business Software Alliance, the Software and Information Industry Association and the United States Information Technology Office, in south China's Guangdong province recently.

Guangdong had been regarded as the No.1 producer of pirated VCDs and software.

More than 100 Chinese lawyers, businessmen and officials attended the course, and discussed international norms concerning the protection of copyright.

Xu said China will hold similar training courses in other parts of China, and more foreign experts would be invited.

He also disclosed that relevant departments of China are working to revise the country's copyright law.
