Quarantine Network to Improve Border Inspection
China's entry and exit inspection and quarantine authorities are strongly promoting a multi-million- U.S. dollar computerization program to improve efficiency and facilitate an on-going reform.
The State Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ) has passed a 250-million-yuan (30 million U.S. dollars) investment plan to computerize the country's border inspection and quarantine systems as well as to link local branches, today's "China Daily" reports.
"As the internal reforms deepen, computer-related technologies are playing an increasingly important role in entry-exit inspection and quarantine administration," said Lin Dekang, director of the CIQ's Information Center in Beijing.
The massive investment plan, preliminarily scheduled to be completed by the end of September, would finance a CIQ2000 informanization project, which includes a wide area network, an information system, an administration system and a management system, Lin said.
The project will also be a foundation for the connection of inspection and quarantine administration networks at different ports and the establishment of a service system targeted at enterprises.
